Aging in Paradise Resource Center was proud to honor Chris Pinckney and Johanna Gustafsson as National Philanthropy Day’s Outstanding Couple! “This dynamic couple is personally and professionally committed to service leadership in all aspects of their lives. Their energy, compassion and commitment to excellence raises the bar for all of us,” Barbara Koetsier, AIPRC Board Co-chair, said. Chris currently serves on the AIPRC Advisory Board; and both he and Johanna donate their time and talents to AIPRC and other area nonprofits. Chris and Johanna work together professionally: Chris is Senior Financial Advisor and Johanna is Senior Vice President, Wealth Management Advisor, Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc., The Gustafsson Pinckney Group. Dick Pelton, AIPRC Board Co-chair said, “Whenever we thank either of them, they seemed so surprised. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) honored local individuals and organizations for their philanthropic initiatives by publicly acknowledging their generous contributions during the National Philanthropy Day celebration, which was held in Sarasota on Tuesday, November 15th.

Beginning Thursday, November 10th, our Beginning Zumba class is back at Aging in Paradise! Last year’s classes, taught by Suzy Brenner, were so popular, we’re thrilled to start season 2.
This is a Beginner Level class, designed for active seniors. All low-impact aerobics, with a Latin-dance influence, you’ll work you body and brain learning dance sequences while strengthening your muscles and improving your balance and coordination. We finish up the class focusing on strength, balance and flexibility (bring small hand weights if you have them). And it’s so much fun, you’ll forget it’s good for you!!

The 2nd Season of Aging Mastery Program® 10-Part Series Begins Monday, January 23, 2017
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) with an initiative from The Patterson Foundation selected AIPRC to provide the state-of-the-art 10-part Aging Mastery Program® on the art of living well: This interactive engagement-curriculum provides the most up-to-date information and tools for seniors. The cost for all 10 workshops is $100 ( including refreshments, workbook, course materials, and a graduation certificate when you complete the course). The program focuses on the life-changing factors meaningful to all of us: good health, sleep issues, exercise and mindfulness, balance, financial security, advance planning, building positive relationships, and a sense of overall well-being to name a few.

The first Tuesday of every month, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Memory Screenings will be provided by Sue Fox, Program Specialist for the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Chapter! The maximum number that can be screened per day is seven, so be sure to sign-up quickly.

Sue brings a wealth of experience and expertise in Mental Health and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Quincy College and a Master’s Degree from Concordia University! Screenings are held in the Ruth Cushing Room, Aging in Paradise Resource Center, 2nd floor of the Longboat Island Chapel, LBK.
